There are a number of food programs available for seniors, including:
• Coffee Shoppe: On weekdays 8-10 a.m. at the Citizen Center, toast or donut & coffee is available for 50¢.
• Lunches at the Center: Lunches are served at the Citizens Center Monday through Friday from 11:15-11:30 a.m. Meals are pre-ordered. Sign up for meals by Thursday prior to when you want to eat- you may do this during lunch hours in the dining room. The meal is always a full entree and menus are posted ahead of time in our newsletter, The Voice. • Meal on Wheels: Meals on Wheels are designed to provide a hot meal five days a week to Haverhill residents who, because of physical limitations, are unable to prepare meals for themselves. • Community Meals: A community meal is held each Monday in the Citizens Center. This meal is free and open to the public. Meals are prepared by a local chef and supported by various community organizations. • Food Stamps:
The Food Stamp Program is supported by the US Dept. of Agriculture, Mass. Dept. of Public Health and also the Mass. Dept. of Public Welfare. Get an application by calling the Food stamp Information Line 1-800-645-8333 or by visiting your nearest public welfare office, who will set up an appointment for an interview. If you are unable to come to the office, you may be allowed to have another adult apply for you or if you are 65 or older or disabled, a home visit or telephone interview if there is no one to go to the office for you. Food stamp workers are available at the counter on Thursdays from 11am to 1pm.
