In order to be able to use a fite pit, a clearance of at least 75 feet from all buildings and combustible structures must be available for a safe operation of a fire pit. There are several requirements based on Department of Environmental Protection regulations (D.E.P.), the Massachusetts State Fire Laws & Codes (MGL Chapter 148 & 527 CMR), the 2009 International Fire Code (IFC) and the State Fire Marshal (SFM).
