Why do we protect all these "resource areas"?

Resource areas provide important public values and services. They protect public, private and ground water supplies. They control flooding and prevent storm damage. They prevent pollution of our streams and lakes. They protect shellfish, fisheries, and wildlife habitat. They also protect agricultural lands, which protects the aesthetics of the City, providing recreational opportunities.
